Is the concept of free will compatible with a deterministic universe?

The debate over free will versus determinism has long been a central discussion in philosophy. On one hand, determinism suggests that every event or state of affairs, including every human decision and action, is the result of preceding events in accordance with the natural laws. If this is true, then the notion that humans can act freely seems undermined, as our choices would merely be the result of a complex chain of prior occurrences. On the other hand, proponents of free will argue that humans possess the capacity to make autonomous choices, independent of the deterministic nature of the universe. This question invites us to explore whether human freedom can truly exist in a world where every action is supposedly predetermined. Can we reconcile the intuition of free will with the logical implications of determinism, or must we choose one framework over the other?
